Hearing Directly from Frontline Activists

This committee seeks to establish clear and constructive channels through which human rights activists and organizations can have access to the time, attention and resources of IHRFG and IHRFG members can have regular, structured opportunities to hear from the field. As human rights funders, we recognize that we must seize every opportunity to learn from the cutting edge of the field we support.

The committee has identified five primary activities:

  • Map out international Human Rights meetings that will take place in key cities over the next two years so that we can plan events that will enable the IHRFG to have intensive exchanges of ideas and strategies with activists from the Global South and so activists can have access to funders.
  • Create resources for grassroots activists when they are visiting the US, providing them with opportunities to capitalize on their trip, meet with funders, advocate for their causes, and tell their stories.
  • Work with intermediary organizations who bring activists to UN and other international meetings to ensure that IHRFG reaches out to activists beyond our network of grantees.
  • Reach out to the High Commissioner on Human Rights, the HR Commission's New York office, key special rapporteurs and others to determine how we might make the IHFRG available to activists when they are in key cities.
  • Engage IHRFG members to host lunches/events for visiting activists when they are in town.
